Mesquite Amateur is proud to announce the addition of a gross division to this year’s event!

For the first time in Mesquite Amateur history there will be a gross division for players to compete in.  The gross division is sponsored by www.amateurgolf.com.  We are very excited about the addition of this division and we feel it will open the tournament up to another demographic of amateur golfer.  Tell your friends about this new addition to this year’s event!

On the latest Participant list, The only person that I had seen listed in the Gross Division is listed in the Men’s Woods Flight.

I personally think the gross division is a great idea. I wish I was good enough to play in it. Thats why we have a gross day for the skins game. Straight up golf. Nothing better. I wish those of you good enough to play in the division good luck. I believe you’ll be playing with us in the mens division and you will be welcome in the daily skins games if you wish. george

You can’t reward good golfers until they show up. Southern Nevada Golf Association is pretty close by so where are you? If enough of you show up it wouldn’t need to be gross because you would be in your own flight anyway. You are not unwelcome in fact we would like to see all you got and what you got. I personally would not like to see four show up and all get prizes when the rest of us will be competing for ours in real flights. Where is the guts and glory? Come on out but don’t expect to be spoon fed.

It is nice to see good golfers being rewarded with a gross division. Great idea and I hope it works for them as well as it does in our Southern Nevada Golf Association tournaments.

I want to make sure I am not in the gross play and still in my Super Seniors division.
With age my game has gone south and I really enjoy the MA as it is. Too many games spoil the venue.
    Christian please advise!

      Jim,

You are in the Super Seniors Net division. You will only be in the gross division if you signed up for it.

  6. Jerry says:

Does anyone know how many players the Am Golf Tour gets to attend their individual events and what the normal rate range is?

  7. Kerry says:

Not on course rotation yet. Maybe if the men don’t fill 3 flights, they will play one of those

  8. Jim O says:

What courses will the gross division play and is it required to join amateur golf .com who is sponsring this?

    1. Christian says:

      Jim,

They will most likely play the same rotation as the Men’s 49 and under. It is not required to joing amateurgolf.com to participate. As a sponsor they are trying to bring added exposure to their website and it is up to the individual if they would like to become a member or their website.

I see it is now listed on the On Line Registration Form. Don’t remember seeing it there when I Registered. So everyone that registers from now on, can select that, I guess everyone else who wants to switch to the Gross Division will need to contact Christian. I am sure he will confirm this, or let us know what to do.

    Christian,

So, do we have any takers in the Gross division yet? Or will folks need to call you to switch over from their Net division?

    1. Christian says:

      Kerry,

We have had a few people sign up for the gross division so far. If people would like to switch to that they can call me at 888-711-4653 Ext. 51 and I can make that switch for them.

I went back and looked at the scores from 2010 and found three men who came with either a 3 or 4 handicap and shot to a 9 to 12 handicap. They must not be true low handicappers. This new flight will potentially get all three of these guys in the finals this year and in the money?????

  12. Jerry says:

This is one thing I don’t think helps at all. The Gross Division will draw players potentially out of all other divisions. This division can’t play in both because of not being on the same course as their original division would have been. Granted this division may potentially be paired with another division to fill the course and those individuals would be able to compete in both. But that would also allow double prizes potentially. Overall I don’t think this is good for the Tournament just to get more scracth level golfers. Will ladies be able to play in gross division from the forward tees. I hope so. Go get’em ladies! Do you have to be an amateur golf tour member?

    1. Christian says:

      Jerry,

The participants that compete in the Gross division will only compete in that division. They won’t get double prizes. In the championship round they will will compete for their own trophy. I hope this sheds some light on this for you.

And this will work how? A completely different division, or a group of people that decide to compete as a gross division while still competing in their regular Men, Senior, Super Senior, Master’s, or Women’s divisions?

    1. Christian says:

      Kerry,

This will be a completely different division. They can only participate in the gross division or in their age group in the net divisions. I hope that answers your question.
